Good day friends! In the last part, we moved this Vehicle of Evaluations round the
business/career arena. I hope that we have taken the necessary steps and
resolutions we need to.
In this part,
we shall consider the need to evaluate our PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.
It is expedient to rehash John Wooden’s words: “Without self-evaluation, failure is inevitable”. Again, I need to tell you that I’m not a personal development coach in a good degree, but I love to pay attention to anything linked to personal development. I hope you’ll find some insights as I drive this session.
It is expedient to rehash John Wooden’s words: “Without self-evaluation, failure is inevitable”. Again, I need to tell you that I’m not a personal development coach in a good degree, but I love to pay attention to anything linked to personal development. I hope you’ll find some insights as I drive this session.
There are
two ways to evaluate one’s personal growth: through observers and through
self-evaluation. I strongly that you employ ways.
Get some
people who know you very well and whose sense of judgment you can trust. Get
them to give you their assessment of your personal growth so far this year. You
don’t necessarily have to swallow all their comments, as some of them may
employ flattery while some may be overly critical. The way of the observers is
useful for managing perceptions.
That is
exactly why you need to do self-evaluation. The way of self-evaluation is
useful for managing our sense of self. Let’s take these SEVEN “how far?”
QUESTIONS as they’ll guide us…
1. How far
with COMMITMENT?
The way to
grow is by growing. There are no two ways about it. How would you rate your
level of commitment to whatever you have set your mind on? How committed are
you to valuable relationships and life’s endeavours? Your level of commitment
plays a big role on your personal growth.
2. How far
with BEHAVIOURS?
It is quite
appalling when I hear people say, “this is me, take me as I am”, especially
when it refers to an unaccepted pattern of behaviour. Some people have pinned
their excesses and inadequacies on their temperaments, and they are apathetic
towards improvement. I honestly think it’s high time you stopped rubbing faeces
on people’s faces and expect them to always stay around.
3. How far
with LEARNING?
One way to
improve one’s personal growth is by reading good books. Reading is like food to
the mind. Books are the gym of the mind. I am not one of those who will give
you a minimum number of books you must read in a year. However, I want you to
assess your investment into consuming valuable contents either online/offline,
books, TVs programmes, documentaries this year. And how much do you intend to
consume next year?
4. How far
with ENERGY?
Where do you
invest your energy? Earlier this year, I released a podcast on ENERGY and how
we use our energy. What takes your time most? Who are the people you use your
energy with?
5. How far
with VALUES?
How often do
you breach your personal values for the sake of comfort or pleasing others? This
is important to personal growth. When we don't honour our values, our mental,
emotional, and physical faculties suffer.
6. How far
with SENSE?
How
far with common sense? Do you act on emotions without respect for sense? How
many purchases did you do based on impulse and emotional craving this year? How
many promises did you make based on temporal happiness? How many harsh words
did you speak based on temporal negative feeling? Evaluate, friends.
7. How far
with SPIRITUALITY?
Now, if you
do not believe in the existence of God, I’ll excuse you from this point –
although my true mind wants you to come to acknowledgement of your Creator. As
for my friends who believe in God, how far with your commitment to Him? “By
strength shall no man prevail”, says the Holy Writ. Stay on course with Him and
enjoy the results of a loving relationship with your Creator.
Thank you
for reading, friends. In the next part, we will unfold how to evaluate our results. I love you all.
